About Margaret Forsey

I (Margaret Forsey) am the founder of Cosy Nest Puppetry, and facilitate the Parent and Child group. Let me tell you a bit about myself.

I was born and raised in beautiful St. John’s, Newfoundland. In 2001, I moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia to study at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. I focused my studies on textile arts and art history. I graduated in 2006 with an Interdisciplinary Fine Art Degree.

In 2008, I moved to Wolfville, Nova Scotia. I spent the next 10 years teaching  art camps and workshops to children. I taught at the Acadia University Art Gallery, the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens, the Wolfville Farmers Market, Ross Creek Centre for the Arts, and the Town of Wolfville Recreation Centre. I also worked for many years as a private nanny.

While living in the Annapolis Valley, I became curious about Waldorf education.

In 2013, I completed the Anthroposophical Foundation Course with the East Coast Institute for Studies in Anthroposophy. In this program, I learned about the teachings of Rudolph Steiner, the founder of Waldorf schools.

In 2015, I completed the Birth to Three: Home Caregiver Program with the same Institute. I also attended the Waldorf East conferences at the South Shore Waldorf school yearly, from 2013 to 2017.

In 2017, I moved to Blockhouse, Nova Scotia, and joined the faculty of the South Shore Waldorf School. I worked as the Kindergarten Assistant, and ran a weekly Parent and Tot program. In addition, I was a substitute for the lead kindergarten teachers. I also taught senior kindergarten handwork, teaching finger knitting, sewing, felting, and natural dyeing to the children. It was a busy time and I learned so much!

While working at the South Shore Waldorf School, I participated in several workshops, including Storytelling with Dawne McFarlane, Non-Violent Communication with Casey Vaasjo, and Community Visioning with Arlene Thorne. In 2021 I attended a virtual conference with WECAN (the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America). The conference was called ‘Toward a Kinder, More Compassionate Society: Black Lives Matter in Waldorf Early Childhood Classrooms  and Communities’. The keynote speaker was Lalena Garcia. Participating in this conference was an incredibly enriching experience.

In 2019 I also began taking online courses in Waldorf style puppetry and story-telling, with Suzanne Down through Juniper Tree Puppets. I completed courses on writing protection stories for children, and performing puppetry for the very young. In 2021, I completed a course about running a parent and tot puppetry group.

I also have completed up to date first aid training from Brave Heart First Aid.

In the autumn of 2021, I moved back to the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. I was inspired to start a parent and child puppetry group in my community. I am so excited, because this endeavour combines many of my interests: early childhood education, fibre craft, and storytelling.  I live in Wolfville with my husband and sweet cat. I love gardening, walking, yoga, and the public library.
